Description
Die „Dillenburger Husaren“ Initially raised in 1768 as a gendarmerie for the Ottonian Nassau counties, this unit served faithfully and honorably. With the dissolution of the Principality of Oranien in the mediatisations which created the Confederation of the Rhine, its service was transferred to the newly created Cleves gendarmerie. In 1813, with the defacto dissolution of the Grand Duchy, and the reclamation of hereditary Nassauer territories, these hussars once again would return under the service of the house of Nassau.
