Das Königliche Sachsenreich History Caught between ambition and survival, Saxony stood at the heart of the Napoleonic Wars as a kingdom pulled into the orbit of an empire far larger than itself. Elevated by Napoleon’s favor yet shackled to his fortunes, it marched boldly into battle beside France, only to watch the ground shift beneath its feet as Europe rose in rebellion. At Leipzig, Saxony found itself torn—its soldiers divided, its loyalty questioned, its fate hanging in the smoke of musket fire. By war’s end, the kingdom’s gamble had collapsed into occupation and loss, leaving Saxony a symbol of a small state swept up in the violent tides of history.
