The Mayflower State Police was officially organized in May of 1838 with the introduction of the State Police Act, which organized the Mayflower State Police as the state-level law enforcement agency for the State of Mayflower. The Mayflower State Police from its inception had a strict culture internally, with a heavy emphasis on rough-working conditions, living inside barracks, and absolute uniformity, earning notoriety as one of the toughest law enforcement agencies at the state-level in all of the Union of Columbia. In 1916, the Mayflower State Police had been the focus of a federal inquiry regarding its actions in repressing a coal miner strike on the outskirts of the Township of West Point in the County of New Haven, where numerous strikers and so-called "scabs" were fired upon by mounted troopers. Today, the Mayflower State Police acts as the state-level civilian law enforcement agency of the State of Mayflower.
