Kahramanmaraş Büyükşehir Belediyesi #1105115151
Description
This group is dedicated to Kahramanmaraş—a city where deep-rooted history meets a heroic spirit. Here is a brief overview of our city's magnificent journey: Ancient Foundation: The history of Kahramanmaraş dates back thousands of years to ancient times. It was an important settlement for the Hittites (who called it Markasi), followed by the Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans. How it Got its Name: Originally known as Maraş, the city was officially awarded the title "Kahraman" (Heroic) by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 1973. This honor was given to commemorate the local people's legendary and brave resistance against occupying forces during the Turkish War of Independence in 1920. Becoming a Metropolitan City: After the foundation of the Turkish Republic, Maraş became an official province. Thanks to its rapid industrial growth, rich culinary culture, and expanding population, it officially achieved Metropolitan Municipality (Büyükşehir) status in 2012.
