𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 – 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 “Ol’ Milam’s Men” The Milam Guards were organized in 1837 as a volunteer company named in honor of Colonel Benjamin R. Milam, who was killed leading Texian forces during the siege of Béxar in December 1835. Like many early Republic units, the company adopted the name of a fallen leader as a mark of remembrance following the Revolution. Drawn from local settlers, the Milam Guards functioned as a civic defense company, assembling during alarms and serving alongside militia or regular troops when called into service. Their identity reflected community defense and the continued memory of the Béxar campaign rather than permanent military establishment. Regiment Cap: 10
