After its collapse the Mongols retreated to the steppe. It was invaded by the Qing Dynasty and it stayed that way for 200 years. After looking to White Russia for independence it failed. They looked to Soviet Russia after which secured the independence of Mongolia and it became a Communist Nation and once the Bogd Khan died the government took control.
