Disputou apoio político com outras organizações nacionalistas populares, como os Ratniks e o Movimento Nacional Social. Em 1939, o agora renomeado UBNL tinha 75.000 membros e, embora naquele ano tenha sido formalmente banido pelo governo pró-alemão do czar Boris III, continuou a funcionar e apoiou a estreita aliança da Bulgária com a Alemanha.
