Description
"Never give up the ship" -James Lawrence The Navy's fleet consisted of various ships, including frigates, brigs, and sloops, which were essential for protecting American interests and ensuring safe passage for merchant vessels. The uniforms of the Navy were standardized, and the sailors were equipped with weapons like pikes and cutlasses for close combat. In 1815, the U.S. Navy was emerging as a formidable force following the War of 1812. The Treaty of Ghent, signed in December 1814, ended the conflict with Britain and allowed the Navy to focus on other challenges.
