Description
During the Napoleonic Wars, the Duchy of Nassau was a small German state forced into the Confederation of the Rhine (1806) as a French ally. It provided significant military contingents for Napoleon's campaigns in Iberia, before switching sides to the Allies in late 1813. Nassau troops subsequently fought against France at Waterloo, and the Duchy emerged from the 1815 Congress of Vienna with expanded territory.
