The requirement to have a firearm license is in addition to a requirement for firearm registration. gun laws in Oakland require firearms to be registered by serial number to the owner, who holds a firearm license. Secure firearms in home – Oakland Municipal Code (OMC) 9.39 requires the safe storage of firearms in private residences. 2. Secure firearms in car – OMC 9.37 states that, “It is unlawful for a Person to leave a Handgun in an Unattended Vehicle. “As a firearm owner, it is your responsibility to ensure that firearms in home are always stored where they are inaccessible to children or other unauthorized persons. Hiding a gun in a closet, drawer or similar location is not safe storage".
