Description
The Duchy of Maris, once a weak and unorganised assembly of sea raiders and pirates, now looks to the past only to boast of how far they've gone. House Aurelius has a legacy they can be proud of - the first pater familias of the family, Prosperus, was a man of strong will that unified the hostile captains of the region under one banner via force. For a while, the duchy was uneducated in the ways of land warfare, however, they quickly learned new ways of combat after being absorbed into the Astrian Empire. Making a fortune with every new trade request, Maris were swimming in gold, thus it is not strange that the Aurelii were the ones to oppose the emperor when he attempted to raise taxes even more upon the southern provinces. Being the leaders of the rebel duchies, Maris forced the collapse of the old order. After the empire fell, Maris refused to join the confederation, and while the other duchies were fighting, they made a hefty profit supplying the combatants with weapons and fish
