The Galactic Empire, also known as the First Galactic Empire, was the galactic, autocratic government that replaced the Galactic Republic in the aftermath of the Clone Wars. Prioritizing the safety of the galaxy as a whole, the Empire was highly militarized and authoritarian in its conduct.
