Description
Upon arriving in Buenos Aires, on March 9, 1812, the then cavalry lieutenant colonel José de San Martín verified the difficult state of the military organization of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, which had taken up arms against the army. realistic as a consequence of the May Revolution that had broken out in Buenos Aires in 1810. San Martín offered his services as a military man to the First Triumvirate, which was the provisional superior government of the country. Faced with this problem and faced with the offer, on March 16, the First Triumvirate granted San Martín the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of Cavalry and jointly appointed him commander of the Grenadier Squad that was to be organized, anticipating the need to form a cavalry corps. suitable and qualified, made up of rigorously selected volunteers, meeting very high standards of behavior and personality.
