International sports organization headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. It hosts the modern Olympic Games. It was founded on June 23, 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and the Greek businessman Demetrius Viquelas. The abbreviation is IOC. The sub-organization is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of 206 member countries. Its main task is to host and host the Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics and Youth Olympics every four years. Until 1992, the Summer and Winter Olympics were held in the same year, but since then, they have been held alternately every two years.
