The French Third Republic (French: République française), sometimes known as National France or simply France, is a transcontinental country primarily situated in North and Western Africa but whose claimed metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe. Although its effective jurisdiction has been limited to territories situated outside of mainland France since the retreat of the French governmental forces from the metropole in the last days of the French Civil War, National France nevertheless claims to be the rightful government of all of France, though it is only recognised as such by a limited number of nations, mostly consisting of its allies of the Entente.
