Description
The Dermont & Hudson Railroad (D&H) was founded in 1954 in the fictional town of Elks Creek, South Carolina, as a shortline carrier built to serve the growing demand for rail service in the agricultural Lowcountry and textile-rich Piedmont. Its name comes from the two endpoints of its earliest route. The original purpose was to connect cotton mills, lumber operations, and tobacco farms with broader markets via river ports and major rail interchanges like Charleston, Savannah, and eventually Columbia.
