Description
With the ongoing threat of Fenian attack, 'A' Battery, Regiment of Canadian Artillery was formed in Kingston Ontario, as part of Canadas small permanent force militia in 1871. Duties were carried out in Kingston, and Quebec, until called out to quell rebellion in 1885. 'A' Battery gallantly answered the call to arms, showing great coolness and pluck in the face of the enemy in the Canadian Northwest. The Regiment of Canadian Artillery was honoured to receive the prefix of 'Royal' in 1893, and continued to serve the Empire with no lack of valour. Canadian gunners served alongside British regulars around the world, including in the Soudan. When war broke out in South Africa, the Royal Canadian Field Artillery again responded with gusto, and claimed hard won victory against a respected enemy. 'A' Battery, RCA serves the purpose of honouring the heritage built by the men who fought and died in the service of Queen Victoria.
