Description
The Irishwomen's Council was a women's paramilitary organization established in April 1914. Although a separate entity from the Irish Volunteers, it fell under much of IV leadership, and thus acted as an auxiliary branch within the volunteers. Many women volunteered as nurses, message runners, or even scouts; During the failed Easter Rising of 1916, however, many took up arms along side their brothers in arms.
