Description
The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy made up of four countries: the Netherlands in Europe, and Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten in the Caribbean. In addition, the Caribbean islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba are special municipalities that belong directly to the Netherlands. Each country within the Kingdom has its own government and cultural identity, while matters such as defense and foreign affairs are managed jointly. The Netherlands is the largest and most populous part, with Amsterdam as its capital and The Hague as the seat of government and parliament. Dutch is the main language, though Papiamentu and English are also widely spoken in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. Together, the Kingdom represents a unique blend of European and Caribbean traditions, united under one monarchy.
