Description
EARLY MEDIEVAL BOSNIAN STATE In the western Balkans, the once strong Greek Byzantine Empire had lost its grip on its western Balkan themes since the early 7th century. Various barbarian (non-Greek speaking) people moved in many groups, displacing the former Illyrians and driving them southwards. In the Dalmatian region settled the Horoúathos, in the east between the Drina and Timok settled the Βοΐκι, and between them settled the Bosonians. Bosnia was first mentioned in 𝑫𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒐, a book written in the 10th century that outlines it as a geopolitical entity. While the small Bosnian state, torn between its two neighbors who controlled its modern-day fringes has only just developed, it will reach its peak some 600 years later.
