𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The Socialist Unity Party is the leading political organization in the democratic republic. Its goal is to build an independent and flourishing socialist society whilst strengthening cooperation with the Soviet Union. It is the product of the unification of the two foremost working class parties. As the governing party, the SED oversees the development of the DDR’s centrally planned economy. Dedicated to socialist principles, the party works to achieve equity and a cooperative community, while promoting peace and international solidarity. The Party is organised as a democratic centralist one. In-between Party Congresses, policy and administration is undertaken by the Central Committee, chaired by the General-Secretary. Members of the Central Committee and other leading governmental figures are organised into the Politburo, one of the most important political organs in the nation.
