The Galactic Empire, declared as the First Galactic Empire, commonly referred to as simply the Empire or New Order, and remembered as the Old Empire, was the interstellar absolute monarchy that controlled worlds from the galaxy's Deep Core to the Unknown Regions spread across light-years of space. It supplanted the Galactic Republic at the end of the Clone Wars under the New Order. Ruled by Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine, who was secretly a Dark Lord of the Sith called Darth Sidious, from Coruscant, a city-covered planet, referred to as Imperial City, that served as the capital of the Empire.
