History: 55th Brigade is a Iranian Airborne unit first established during 1963 when King of Iran saw a need for a Special Unit (besides 23rd Commando Unit) to protect Iran against foreign Invasion and conduct operations through out the middle east and potentially Soviet Union, Since then, This unit has participated in Oman Rebellion and defense against Iraq during the 1980's and allegedly had a Indirect role in Syria.
