Dr. Vance Azalea ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Saint Winistan Psychiatric Hospital was built in the rural town of La Veta, Colorado, in the late 1890s. It's visionary; Dr. Vance Azalea pictured a Psychiatric hospital where its occupants would be treated but even cured of their mental illnesses. It was one of Colorado's first Psychiatric hospitals to be built and operated with a children's center. It continues to treat and cure many mental illnesses people once thought incurable. ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Dr. Vance Azalea would, unfortunately, pass away just five years after the opening of the Saint Winistan Psychiatric Hospital. Still, his legacy lives on inside the walls of Colorado's best Mental care facility of the 1900s. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
