Description
Em 30 de dezembro de 1777, a linha bávara dos Wittelsbach extinguiu-se, e a sucessão no Eleitorado da Baviera passou para Carlos Teodoro, o Eleitor Palatino. Depois de uma separação de quatro séculos e meio, o Palatinado, ao qual tinham sido adicionados os ducados de Jülich e reuniu-se com a Baviera. Em 1805, pela Paz de Pressburg, Maximiliano José foi reconhecido como Rei da Baviera.
