中國空降兵“雷神”突擊隊，是一支隸屬中國人民解放軍空降兵部隊的特種作戰部隊，也是空降兵部隊一支遂行信息化條件下戰略威懾、戰役突擊、特遣行動和多樣化任務的特種力量。 “雷神”突擊隊是中國人民解放軍空降兵某部着眼使命任務拓展， 按照“到達一切地域、奪佔一切先機、克服一切困難、戰勝一切對手”標準，打造的一支“小型、靈活、多能”的空降特種突擊新型力量，主要擔負特種偵察、支援配合主力部隊作戰、遂行非常規作戰等任務，是關鍵時刻應對突發事件的特殊力量和特殊手段。 空降兵本身是空軍的特種部隊，而“雷神”突擊隊則是“特種部隊中的特種部隊”。建立“特中之特”的作戰部隊，就是在關鍵時刻、關鍵節點，給敵人致命的一擊。而空降兵組建這種新型作戰部隊，有着無可比擬的優勢——遠程精確投送。數百次的跳傘訓練，讓他們完全可以乘坐大型運輸機，直飛數千公里，通過高跳低開的方式，利用翼傘操控性強的特點精確地抵達目標，實現點對點的投放和打擊。
