Description
PROVINCIAL CORPS OF LIGHT INFANTRY Raised in April 1812 after the threat of war with the United States, Sir George Prévost, Governor-General of Canada, authorised the enlistment of a Provincial Corps of Light Infantry under Lt-Col. Charles de Salabxrry to serve during the war. The Voltigeurs Canadiens, a local Canadian colloquialism due to the majority of the unit being French-speaking, was a unit of light infantry whose bravery was noticed at the Battle of Lacolle MiIIs, during which the army of American General Henry Dearborn was turned back. For the duration of their service in the War of 1812, the Voltigeurs performed aptly and with distinction up until its disbandment in May 1815. 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑: N/A
