☧ "O Stavros Nika" 🏛️ The Empire of the Romans, 1444–1453 🏛️ The Eastern Roman Empire staggers from a series of defeats to the Ottoman Turks of Anatolia, the South Slavs of Haemus, and the Venetians of Italy, left only with its Thracian and Morean territories. The capital city of Constantinople, once a city of great splendor and marvel, remains vastly abandoned in the legacy of the sack of 1204 carried out by the Latins of the West. Efforts to mend poor relations between West and East and unite against the Islamic threat, posed by the Ottoman Sultanate, has culminated in Pope Eugene IV calling for crusade against the Turks in 1444 to support the Romans, led by the young King Władysław III of Jagiellon, whilst Konstantinos Palaiologos campaigns into Thessaly against the heathens.
