Deutsche Skandinavische Linie #12832726
Description
The line was founded in 1909 with a small fleet of ships, and operated solely to transport cargo between the Nordic Countries and Germany, but quickly grew to begin transporting passengers between the countries. The amount of people that traveled with the company continued to grow between 1910 and 1914, but with the outbreak of WWI the company completely ceased passenger service and the German government took over all of their ships to use for the war effort, with a few rare passenger services aboard them. After the war, most of the fleet had been completely destroyed, and with Germany in ruins the company was in a bad position. They began to use what they had for passenger services in Scandinavia as they did previously. By 1914 the fleet contained the following ships: Cargo Transports SMS Bonn SMS Heidelberg SMS Karlstadt SMS Drammen Passenger Liners KMS Hamar KMS Hanover KMS Bremen
