Description
The Alpine troops originated in 1872, when the young Kingdom of Italy had to face the problem of defending the new land borders, which after the unhappy war against Austria, coincided almost entirely with the Alpine arch. In 1870, the unity of Italy with Rome as its capital had been completed and the new state had to face a very delicate international situation due to the reactivation of tensions both with France and with the powerful Habsburg monarchy. still potentially hostile after the cession of Veneto to Italy.
