Description
The Royal Norwegian Army In the 1920s, Norway reduced military spending, leaving its forces underfunded. While some modernization occurred, the military remained weak as tensions rose in the late 1930s. The army conscripted 6,000 men annually, with a wartime goal of 60,000 troops. However, only 19,000 were available when Germany invaded on April 9, 1940. The 6th Division, including Infantry Regiment 15 (IR 15), played a key role in recapturing Narvik—the first major Allied land victory. Norwegian troops were trained for roles like infantry and logistics but faced outdated equipment. Despite these challenges, units like IR 15 showed resilience in battle.
