Description
The Kingdom of Sicily was founded in 1130 after the Norman conquest of Sicily and Southern Italy. In 1302 the Kingdom was split, the island remaining the Kingdom of Sicily (under the Aragonese) while Southern Italy became the Kingdom of Naples. Both Sicily and Naples would fall under the rule of the Hasburgs of Spain and later of Austria, until it achieved substantial autonomy in 1735. The island of Sicily stands strong against Napoleon's invasion of Italy.
