Description
Sweden remained neutral during World War I, which lasted from 1914 to 1918. This neutrality allowed Sweden to avoid direct involvement in the conflict. However, Sweden's stance was not entirely passive, as the country did trade with both the Allied Powers and the Central Powers, providing essential resources like iron ore, ball bearings, and other goods to various belligerents. This trade was essential for Sweden's economy and helped the country maintain its neutrality. Sweden also offered humanitarian aid to war-torn nations and hosted various peace conferences during the war. While Sweden did not participate in the military aspects of the conflict, its position as a neutral trading partner played a significant role in sustaining the war efforts of the warring parties.
