Regno di Napoli was a French Client State in Southern Italy ruled by Giuseppe Buonaparte until 1808 when he left the The Kingdom of Naples to become the King of Spain, another French Client State. Napoleon then assigned his Brother-in-law, Gioacchino-Napoleone Murat, to become the new King of Naples. Murat then joined Napoleon in the disastrous Russian Campaign which ended horribly for Napoleon and his allies' forces. With the coalition advancing into the Rhine, Murat called all his forces to defend the Rhine from the Coalition.
