Formerly known as Territorial Prelxtxre of Batanes Islands and Babuyan (Batanensis et Babuyanensis), Renamed "Territorial Prelxtxre of Batanes (Batanensis)" in 2002. Established in November 30, 1950, Feast of Apostle St. Andrew, carving out from the Archdiocese of Manila. Became suffragan of Nueva Segoviuh in 1951, and of Tuguegarao in 1972. Established in Roblox on August 28, 2021, Feast of St. Augustine of Hippo, carving out from the now dissolved Ro - Archdiocese of Tuguegarao, making the sole suffragan of the said Metropolitan See.
