Description
The Garde impériale, or the Imperial Guard, was a select and very privileged military force founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804, composed of the best soldiers of his army, who were his personal bodyguard and vast military reserve, with infantry, cavalry, and artillery units, and was divided into the Old, Middle, and Young Guard according to their length of service and veterancy.
