The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) is a statewide law-enforcement agency responsible for promoting public safety, enforcing Georgia laws, and protecting the state’s residents and visitors. DPS consists of three primary law-enforcement divisions: the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), which provides statewide highway patrol, traffic enforcement, crash investigation, and specialized law-enforcement services; the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVE), which enforces commercial motor-carrier, size, weight, and safety regulations; and the Capitol Police Division, which provides law enforcement and security for state government facilities and officials. DPS also contains headquarters, training, professional standards, recruiting, aviation, and other administrative and support operations.
