It’s hard to think of a more damning condemnation of politics in this country. But it’s not difficult to understand why so many people feel cynical and uninterested, seeing politics as separate from themselves. Our political system works where who has the most candidates wins the election, as only candidates feel that voting will benefit them. Our system needs serious change. For how many years have we battled with inactivity, using the same strategies that only ever work in the short term. The time has come for fresh ideas and experienced leadership that can get on with reviving the commonwealth, renewing the private sector, rebuilding the civil service and restoring the armed forces to its former glory."
