Description
No. (55) Light Infantry Division, known as 55th Light Infantry Division (၅၅ ခြေလျင်တပ်), is one of the Tatmadaw’s light infantry formations, with significant operational activity in Kayin State and other key regions. The division is structured around Light Infantry Battalions designed for rapid deployment, high mobility, and operations in difficult terrain, particularly in counter-insurgency environments. In Kayin State, the 55th has been involved in sustained ground operations focused on maintaining territorial control, securing key routes, and supporting coordinated operations in contested areas. The division has also been associated with deployments to Taungkham, where its involvement coincided with a shift toward more coordinated offensives and improved operational momentum.
