Description
Jacques Commandeur de Souvré's Regiment of Horse was transferred into French service on May 16th, 1635, and was created in 1630 in Piedmont. The regiment was comprised mainly of men from the two slopes of the Alps alongside some from Piedmont. The officers of the regiment were mostly Frenchmen. On March 20th, 1647, the regiment was purchased for Philippe d'Anjou. In 1651 command was passed to Henri de La Grange-Montigny Marquis d'Arquien and in 1655 to Artus de Gouffier Duc de Roannèz. The regiment would take the name Orleans after the death of Gaston 1660. The regiment would be disbanded on April 18th, 1661. Regimental CO: Regimental XO:
