Description

The van Howard Household is an English-Dutch minor noble family that can be traced to its founding in 1548 by Heer Hendrik van Heerwaert, 1st Baron van Heerhugoward. The 6th Baron relocated to England with the Court of William III during the Glorious Revolution, and settled there, anglicising the name to ‘van Howard’. They remained until 1742 when his second son travelled to the New World and founded the van Howard Mining Company after initially purchasing 1,000 acres of iron rich land in New Jersey. The company, and the household behind it, are presently preeminent entities in industry and society. The van Howard name can be found on various sponsored buildings and institutions. The family are primarily located in Hartford, Connecticut. Family Seat: Howard House, Connecticut Family Patriarch: Mr. Stephen van Howard Family Motto: HAEC ERGO LIBERTATIS / THIS FOR FREEDOM
