Independent Lusatian Republic Founded in 1919 following the collapse of Imperial Germany, the Republic of Lusatia emerged as a homeland for the Sorbian people. Surrounded by larger powers and facing constant pressure from German nationalists, the young republic was forced to defend its independence from the very beginning. Recently Lusatia has endured border incursions, sabotage, and raids from hostile groups seeking its reunification with Germany. In response, the nation developed a powerful military tradition built upon vigilance, discipline, and national service. While elections are regularly held and democratic institutions officially exist, real authority rests with the State Security Council and the military leadership. The government presents itself as a democracy to the outside world, but in practice operates as a tightly controlled authoritarian state where stability and national security take precedence over political opposition.
