Description
The "Tercio Viejos de Cerdena", also known as "Tercio Viejo de Malaga" was one of the old Tercios raised by King Charles I of Spain in 1536. It was recruited mostly in the city of Malaga (hence its nickname), but also included decent number those from south-west of Castile, Granada, and ############ as well as some from ####### Navarre, and Sardinia. Later recruitment would continue to happen in the city of Malaga. It initially numbered almost 3000 men in 10 companies of pikemen and 2 or 3 of arquebusiers. By 1567 it numbered 1728 men in 10 companies of musketeers, and arquebusiers and 2 companies of 'light' arquebusiers. When in Italy, it was distributed throughout Sardinia with companies being located in Cagliari, ################# Alghero, and Tempio.
