Characterized by its rugged mountains and expansive grasslands, Phthia drew inspiration from the mythical myrmidons, an esteemed brotherhood led by the legendary Achilles. According to myth, Phthia's roots trace back to the 8th Century BC, founded by Aeacus, the father of Peleus and grandfather of Achilles. The city-state gained prominence during the Trojan Wars, as depicted in Homer's Iliad, where Achilles played a central role in its military strength and strategic significance.
