Description
Specialized in unconventional warfare such as infiltration, sabotage and assassination. Their covert methods of waging irregular warfare which contradicted the way of the warrior (bushido), were deemed dishonorable and beneath the honor of the samurai. They fought in areas mainly around the central plain area of Japan. That area was also the center of some of the most vicious fighting seen in Japan as armies vied for control over Kyoto, the emperor and the seat of shogun. In 1600 the Koga served Ieyasu in the defense of Fushimi castle. The castle was on a route vital to the armies of Ishida Mitsunari in the events leading up to Sekigahara- the battle that helped set up the Tokugawa Shogunate.
