The 1st Battalion, 9th marines are a marine regiment that was formed near the end of the first world war. The 1/9th did not see much action in the first world war, during the second world war, the 1/9th fought in numerous battles such as Iwo Jima, Guam and many more. The 1/9th marines gained much recognition during the 2nd indochinese war, better known as the Vietnam war, the 1/9th had the highest casualty rate out of the entire marine corps. in mid 1969, Ho Chi Minh belived that the 1/9th marines had all been KIA. Ho Chi Minh soon found out that the marines had survived and they soon gained the nicknamed "The Walking Dead." The 1/9th was then disbanded to make room for other armored regiments. In the early 2000s, the marine regiment was restored.
