Gаrde du Corрs #14263799
Description
Summary: The Garde du Corps was raised in October 1740 by Frederick II in Potsdam after he took the throne and initially consisted of one squadron of 178 men, to which it then gained 2 additional squadrons using men from the Saxony Garde du Corps. Candidates for all ranks were selected from existing cavalry regiments to serve within the regiment. Furthermore, it served as the personal guard and escort for King Frederick II on campaign and during peace. Both its soldiers and officers were trained and accustomed to court service, acting as gentlemen both on and off the battlefield.
