A Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) foi criada pelo presidente Washington Luís em 24 de julho de 1928, sob a denominação original de "Polícia de Estradas". Inicialmente, o objetivo era fiscalizar as primeiras rodovias pavimentadas do país. Ao longo de quase um século, a instituição evoluiu para uma das principais forças de segurança pública e combate ao crime do Brasil.
