The "Grenztruppen der DDR" is the border guard of the German Democratic Republic, they are the primary force guarding the DDR's borders and a service branch of the NVA. The Grenztruppen's main role is preventing Republikflucht (the illegal migration from the German Democratic Republic) and checking immigrants intentions.
