𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐀 𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐘 Four years after Agha Muhammed Khan Qajar's death, the Russians capitalized on the moment, and annexed KartIi-Kakheti. In 1804, the Russians invaded and sacked the Iranian town of Ganca, massacring and expelling thousands of its inhabitants, thereby beginning the Russo-Persian War of 1804-1813. Under Fath AIi Sâh, the Qajars set out to fight against the invading Russian Empire, who were keen to take the Iranian territories in the region. This period marked the first major economic and military encroachments on Iranian interests during the colonial era.
